I had the pleasure and the privilege of meeting Louis Marie on my several visits to California over the past 10 years. We had many wide-ranging conversations. She loved to reminisce about Ballybunion as it was in her growing-up years. We talked about Cissie Macs and the array of beach toys on the pavement outside the shop. She talked of her parents, siblings and the aunt who made a home with them. She remembered all with great love and appreciation..as well as humour.
Louis spent many years in north Cameroon, walking in the heat from village to village, befriending, helping, encouraging. She is still spoken of there and there are children..now adults..who bear her name.
One of our late sisters, Mary Kevin, herself a Kerry woman, once said: Louis brings peace wherever she goes.
I was with her when word came of the death of her sister, Peggy. We spoke of the term Slí na fírinne.
Louis, remember us now as you yourself are on the path of truth.
