We were all deeply sadden to hear of Phil’s passing last week. More fondly know to us as ‘aunty Phil’ we have many happy memories of visiting you all ‘out by the sea’ in Clontarf, and in Parklands Courtown . She was an endearing and kind person whom we loved and admired. Above all, she was a wonderful lifelong ‘best’ friend to our mother Betty and it’s comforting to know that the two of them are back together and no doubt having loads of long ‘chats’ together.

So sad to learn of the death of my lovely travelling companion Phil Sweeney we had great fun on lots of trips especially cruising the Med and visiting Italy with the ICA. Phil loved her garden and the ICA serving her Guild and Dublin Federation over the years. Sincere sympathy to Mary and all the Sweeney family and to her Guild friends in Dollymount. I did not know Phil as long as some other members of Dollymount Guild but we soon discovered that we both had a love of short story writing and I had the honour of accompanying her to some ICA short story competitions here in Dublin.
