On behalf of the University of Rochester, we would like to extend our sympathy on Professor Daniel (Dan) O'Donovan's passing. He was a distinguished Alumnus of this University. Our condolences go out to Pamela and the extended O'Donovan family, on their very sad loss.

I have known Dan through you over the last 40 years and I always enjoyed bumping into him and chatting about sport, politics and lots of other subjects! In fact, I looked forward to our debates. Mrs O'Donovan, Barry, Sheila and all the family, I am very sorry to hear of the recent passing of Dan. He was a complete gentleman, who always had a smile and a welcome for everyone. I really got to know him in the Rotary Club of Galway where he made me most welcome and eventually I became President of the Club due to his enthusiasm for the Club. A man of great character and integrity. He will be sadly missed. May he rest in peace. He is in our thoughts and prayers.

While I did not know him, I knew his brother Michael, RIP, while growing up in Tralee, a kind and decent man, - and apples that fall from the same tree tend to be of similar quality. My sincere condolences to Barry and family, I had the pleasure meeting Dan a few times, after he retired and during a few Christmas parties at the NUI Galway School of Medicine. Dan was introduced me as 'Barry O'Donovan's dad'. Dan was speaking in great admiration about you and the rest of the family, as expressed at the funeral services many times, he must have been a great example for many people including myself.
