Dear Bebe and Family,
I was very sorry to hear that Prof died. He inspired so many of us to become psychiatrists with that rare combination of excellent clinical skills, academic rigour and a real interest in people and their stories. He was a great storyteller too, pausing briefly to adjust his glasses before delivering the punchline with a smile.

Sincere condolences to the family of Prof Tom Fahy on their sad loss. He was kind ,witty and helpful when we green innocent bashful students turned up in the unit in the Summer of 1976. I took away a lifelong appreciation of psychiatry as a result. May he rest in peace
My sincere sympathy to all of Tom’s family at this time of loss and separation. Tom was a key figure in Irish psychiatry providing both leadership and a role model as a clinician and an academic. I had the pleasure of knowing Tom as a fellow academic through the activities of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Irish College of Psychiatrists. Tom was a clear thinker, a witty speaker, yet very grounded and with a kind and compassionate nature. His contribution to Irish Psychiatry and to mental health in Ireland lives on in the many former students, patients and colleagues whose lives he touched. I am privileged to be one of them.
Deepest sympathy to Kathleen & Family at this difficult time. RIP Tom.
Sad to hear of Tom’s passing. I was in U.C.D with him in the 1950’s and we did our internship together in the Mater Hospital Dublin 1959 - 1960. R.I.P

Sympathies to Kathleen and all the Family on the passing of Prof. Tom. May he rest in peace.
I am so sad to hear of Professor Fahys death. He inspired generations of medical students to love Psychiatry and is responsible for many of us choosing Psychiatry as a career at a time when it was not a popular choice. He was a fun inspiring Boss. I still have a horror of prescribing Benzodiazepines as a result of his counsel against them. He did an enormous amount of good in the world. May he rest in peace
Sincere condolences to the Fahy family on Profs passing. May he rest in peace.
Had the honour of having worked with him in the D.O.P or as he referred to same as "the shop window of Psychiatry ".
His brilliance left a lasting impression on all those who knew him, a foward thinker who encouraged all to be likewise.

Bebe and the Fahy family. Sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. Condolences to you all at this difficult time.R.I.P.
Sincere sympathy to Anne and all the Fahy family on the sad passing of Prof Fahy. I worked for Prof for a few years in his private rooms in the Regional Medical Centre. He was an absolute gentleman, to his secretaries and his patients. He was a delight to chat to however a little difficult to explain the smoking ban to when it came in as he continued to have a sneaky cigarette between patients! Will always remember him fondly.. Rest in peace Prof

As neighbours and friends, we have many fond memories of Mr Fahy… Christmas coffee mornings, lifts into school and his masterful horse riding. He will be missed but fondly remembered. Thinking of you all and sending our love.

Sympathy to all the family from the Fahy family Roo, Craughwell
A truly unique man who always made his presence felt. May his family be forever proud of his dedication to his profession and those who were fortunate to be under his care. Rest in peace.
Our deepest sympathies on the passing of Tom (my uncle and godfather). I was brought up on stories of the legend of Tom. Rugby, personality, academia and psychiatry. Despite no contact for decades, in a time of need, Tom without any hesitation, dropped everything and came to our help. It was obvious the legend (as told by his late brother Dr Peter Fahy) was all true and a lot more. A few years later I was lucky enough to witness and benefit from his integrity, humanity and kindness. My dealings with Tom were over serious matters, long distance and over the phone. Whenever he spoke of Ann, Kathleen, Bebe and Alice his voice used to light up with joy and pride. Que en paz descanse.
Our deepest sympathy to Kathleen and all the Fahy family at this sad time, on the passing of Professor Fahy.

Our paths crossed intermittently over the years .
He was a great teacher and was mainly responsible for setting up the original academic programme in psychiatry. In Ireland.
He was a real gentleman ,larger than life with a great sense of humour and fun.

May God help Prof. Fahy's family in their time of anxiety and loss. May He make easy it for them. I was fortunate to be a medical student when Prof. Fahy was in NUI Galway. He certainly was a larger than life character and had a good sense of humour. Such characters are rare and consequently there can be few persons from whom to seek inspiration or guidance. I am grateful that I was allowed to hear Prof. Fahy speak.
Kathleen, Aoife and I are very sorry to hear this sad news, thinking of you and the rest of the Fahy clan during this time.
Kathleen,
Our thoughts are with you and all of your family at this time. Our heartfelt sympathies to you all. May your Dad rest in peace. Mary and Dave.

My deepest sympathy to the Fahy family on this sad occasion. I had the privilege of working with 'The Prof' for a year as a trainee. He had a major influence on my career and practice and he was dedicated to destigmatising psychiatry as well as establishing the academic unit in Galway. He will always be remembered with affection and gratitude by this doctor. May he rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to the Fahy Family on the passing of Professor Fahy. My husband worked for many years with the Professor. May you be comforted by your many family memories and the knowledge that hs legacy will live on in his care and support for people during the darkest times in their lives. May he rest in peace.
We send our heartfelt condolences and love to Ann, Kathleen, Bebe, Alice and the wider family on the passing of Tom. We will remember Tom as a wonderfully engaging, intelligent, energetic man with a great wit, way with words and sense of humour. We will also remember him as an inspirational psychiatrist and teacher. Tom was a fantastic host and we fondly remember the occasions when he shared with us his love of exceptional red wine, port and good conversation. He will be sorely missed by the very many people who loved him and whose lives he touched in a positive way.
To Babe and all of the Fahy family,
I would like to offer my sincere condolences on the death of the Prof. I have so many happy memories of the warm welcome and beautiful food and wine in your home on so many occasions. Prof Fahy was always entertaining, witty and sage in his advice to a very green young med student and doctor,

Prof Fahy through his leadership and dedicated work led me to form an opinion of psychiatric admission unis as places of true humanity, care, return to full functioning, and utter belief in evidence based treatment and recovery. As a medical student in early 80's our patients had beauty classes and hairdressers available on site to begin to care for their appearance and return to normal life. I was inspired ...... no stigma, openness, care. Thank you. Condolences to all the family.
I worked closely with Prof Fahy for a number of years. Everyday with him was an education. He was a great teacher and Doctor. He cared for people at the most difficult times in their lives and endeavored to provide the best service possible. He was both fearless and inspirational. He had an incredible intellect and was way ahead of his time . His legacy lives on in the lives of those he assisted and in his contribution to the academic world.
My deepest sympathy to Ann and all of his family on the loss of an exceptional and unique man.

So saddened to hear of Prof's passing. I served as his last secretary who worked with him before his retirement in UCHG. It became very apparent that I had big shoes to fill when I became his secretary. I must admit I felt quite daunted when I first met him. Prof was a larger than life character. We had only one row in our time together and this seemed to have strengthed our relationship- Prof soon realised he was not dealing with a timid mouse. I had so respect for him as a Doctor and a person. I saw on a daily basis how his patients loved and respected him. He was a force to be reckoned with, but he only had his patients at the forefront. I remember on several occasions hearing him on the corridors or being told in the room that we had our breaks that Prof was looking for me.."Where's my Secretary "..this was only heard when Prof wanted me to across the road and get him his cigarettes. I was devastated when Prof retired. He was very easy to work with and I learned so much from him. He was a generous boss with a fantastic sense of humour. I have fantastic memories of working with Prof and his team . Sincere Sympathies to you his beautiful family. Thinking of you all at sad and difficult time. Light of Heaven to you Prof
