Sincere sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Andrea, Emily, Eoghan and Stephen. I was very saddened to hear about the passing of Chris. I had the pleasure of working with Chris in his capacity as Vice President of Performance and Innovation at the University of Galway. He was a wonderful colleague, mentor and friend who shared his wisdom freely, always delivered with kindness, a great sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye! May his gentle soul rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy to you Peter on the loss of your brother Chris .
Condolences to his wife & family & extended family. May He Rest In Peace
Our sincere sympathies to Andrea and the Curtin family on the sad passing of Chris. He was a true gentleman, with a great sense of humour, who greeted everyone with a smile and was always available to support colleagues. Many of us benefitted greatly from his wise counsel over the years. He made a tremendous contribution to the University of Galway: initially as a teacher and researcher; later as an academic leader who led out many initiatives which benefitted students and staff in sociology and politics; and as Vice President for Innovation and Performance when he made a very significant contribution to the increased academic standing and reputation of the University. His lifelong commitment to community engagement and development was exceptional. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann. Fear den chéad sloth, may he rest in peace.
Andrea, you are in my thoughts at this very difficult time. My deepest condolences to you and all of the Curtin family.

Condolences on the sad passing of Chris, well wishes to all the Curtin family. In our thoughts over the coming few months
We just heard the sad news. Chris gave us such a warm welcome when we first came to Galway and remained a very valued friend and colleague throughout our time there. His commitment to building up the study of community development in what was then UCG was relentless and effective. We've fond memories of many long evenings spent together with good food, good cheer, and liquid refreshment. They're not making them like him anymore!! Our sympathies to Emily, Eoghan and Stephen.
Saddening news indeed to learn of the passing of Chris. He was a gentle man, a scholar, with great compassion and wit. Our sincerest sympathies to his family.
Very sad to hear this news. RIP Chris. You'll never walk alone
My sincere condolences to Chris’s family. We ploughed parallel furrows over many years. My agricultural/rural reference is deliberate, because apart altogether from his academic contribution, Chris had a deep appreciation for the role that the university could and should fulfil in its hinterland and he contributed hugely in this regard. I probably knew him best of all away from the workplace; a true ‘character’ with a ready smile and infectious laugh, always at ease whatever the company might be; except perhaps when the referee gave a free against his beloved Annaghdown team!
Stephen, my deepest condolences to you and your family on the passing of Chris. May he rest in peace.

My sincerest condolences Emily to you and the extended Curtin family on the sad passing of Chris. He was a stalwart of knowledge, support and guidance to me from my undergrad to postgrad days in University. The uniqueness of his pragmatic teaching style and practice based approach will never be forgotten. The contribution he has made to local and global development projects and publications are testament to his memory. My fondest memories are connected with Chris when he and his lifelong university friend and ally, the late Seamus O Grady visited me as an outreach community development worker in many locations encouraging one and all to take up the community development mantle. Rest easy now Chris.

I'm so sorry to hear the sad news of Chris' death.

Chris was a lovely, kind and generous man, full of wisdom, insight and humour. He was an internationally-renowned rural sociologist from whom I learned so much about rural community development. Chris also put his knowledge and energy into practice, working with community groups throughout his career for wider benefit. He was also great company and an inspiration to many.

On behalf of the staff and Board of Directors of FORUM Connemara Local Development Company, we wish to extend our heartfelt sympathies to Andrea, Emily, Stephen, and Eoghan, their families, and to Chris’s extended family, friends, and colleagues at UoG.

Chris was deeply committed to FORUM Connemara, he was instrumental in its establishment 35 years ago and served on the Board for over 27 years. He deeply believed in the power of rural communities working together to create better outcomes for all. Connemara always held a special place in his heart, and he often fondly recalled his time spent in Leenane in his younger days.

Chris was a warm, generous, and committed man who gave freely of his time and wisdom. He had so much more to give, and his loss will be deeply felt by his family & friends and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.
Dear Stephen and Family, may your father Rest In Peace. We will light a candle for his soul.
