Dear Family, Friends and Colleagues of Professor Eunice McCarthy,

On behalf of the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA), we wish to express our sincere condolences on the passing of Professor McCarthy.

Professor McCarthy made an outstanding contribution to psychology in Ireland, across Europe and internationally. As a former President of the Psychological Society of Ireland and a committed contributor to European psychology, her leadership, scholarship, and vision helped to strengthen professional collaboration and advance the discipline. Her pivotal role in bringing the European Congress of Psychology to Ireland in 1997 stands as a lasting testament to her dedication to European psychology.

Beyond her many achievements, Professor McCarthy will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, her mentorship, and the deep respect she showed for colleagues and students alike. Her influence continues through the many professionals she inspired and the foundations she helped to build.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to her family, friends, colleagues, and all who mourn her loss. She will be remembered with great respect and gratitude.

With deepest condolences,

Sofia Ramalho, EFPA President
Isane Aparicio, EFPA Executive Director
Very sad to hear that Eunice has died. What a lovely, kind, elegant, warm hearted lady whom I remember fondly from many many decades ago. She had adored her husband. I was her Gardener, in my twenties then and she loved foxgloves, left me a nice lunch and shared stories with me. Later I befriended her lovely sister Ena, in Tralee Art Group. We became great friends. She adored Eunice. I met her at dear Ena's funeral, and she remembered me.
Dear Ena and Eunice..may you both be together now and be at peace. Two unique Beautiful souls💛💛
Condolences to all who loved her

I was honoured to know Eunice as a student and colleague, and enjoyed her company enormously. My sincere sympathy to all her family.
Sincere sympathy to Breda and all the McCarthy families, on the sad passing of Eunice. May she rest in peace.
To Kathryn and Eunice's extended family. Im sorry to hear about the death of your precious aunt. May she rest in peace.
So sorry to hear of the death of Eunice. She was such an inspiration to me in my student days in UCD, and the reason I got involved in Organisational Psychology. She was always so friendly, approachable, and made light of her own achievements, and the work she did to put Organizational Psychology on the map in Ireland. It was great to meet up with her in recent years on a DWOP committee, and to see her still doing presentations internationally. A definite force to be reckoned with! May she rest in peace.
I am very sorry to hear the sad news of the passing of Eunice. She and I taught on the MIE and MA (organisational psychology) programmes on Saturday mornings for a number of years. She was a kind, insightful and brilliant colleague and was invariably enthusiastic about her discipline and her students. A pioneer of industrial and organisational pyschology, I am proud to have known her as a colleague.
Sincere condolence to the McCarthy family on the passing of Eunice. I have very fond memories of Eunice in UCD. She was the reason I applied a job in UCD, without her encouragement I wouldn't be here. I will be forever grateful to her. She was a very kind and generous person, and will be missed. May she rest in peace.
Eunice will be sadly missed. She made a huge contribution to psychology in Ireland over her many years of lecturing and supervising in UCD (where I first encountered her as a student) as well as her various roles in PSI, including her role as President and as Chair of several committees, including the Post-Graduate Qualifications Committee where I got to know her personally as a colleague. Never one to stand on ceremony she treated students and colleagues alike with kindness and generosity. She had a great love for life, for fun, for story-telling and for Irish folklore. May she rest in peace.
Eunice will be greatly missed by a huge community of people here and abroad. She was a towering figure in the development of psychology in Ireland and a lovely warm, caring and curious person, who was always helpful and supportive to others. May she rest in peace.

As a former student of Eunice, 50 years ago, Eunice created an awareness in her students of the need for psychological reseach on the workplace and its environment . We were introduced to some the greats of Organisatonal Psychology, Fiedler, Taylor, Lewin - names we will never forget.
Rest in Peace Eunice - You made a Positive Contribution to Psychology.
Eunice was a lively colleague at UCD. She made a huge contribution to understanding of workplace stress. I offer my sincere condolences to her family, friends and former colleagues. Condolences to Eunice's family and friends on her passing. I echo David Dwyer, UCD, sentiments. As a former student and employee of UCD Centre for Safety & Health at Work, I have fond memories of Prof. McCarthy as a lecturer and always supportive friend. She was ahead of her time re the importance and application of psychology to workplace wellbeing. She opened the door for us students and relevant bodies on work related stress and its implications. She always had time for students and was a welcome face in UCD exam halls. Thank you Professor McCarthy.
Rest in peace Eunice.
Very saddened to hear of the passing of Eunice. We have great memories of her here in the UCD Centre for Safety and Health at Work, and are indebted to her considerable contributions to the relevance of Psychology to workplaces. She was highlighting stress and workplace stress years ahead of anyone I know. Always had time for people, lots of joy and laughter over the years.
Rest in peace, Eunice.

The metaphor of “standing on the shoulders of giants” so as to see further into the unknown is often used; today, we mourn the loss of one such giant.
