Deepest condolences to all of Randal's family at this sad time,he taught me in Walsh Island NS many years ago,a few years ago i met him at his home in Blarney,a most enjoyable day, Rest in peace Randal.

My deepest sympathy Eileen and family on the recent sad death of Randal. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. I had the great pleasure of meeting Randal approximately 40 years ago in Kilmeaden. Being both Corkmen we spent a lot of time discussing and enjoying Cork GAA. Looking back those years were some of the County’s most successful including the famous 1990 Cork Double. Randall’s knowledge of hurling and football was amazing as was his summary of games. Thank you Eileen for the tea and brown bread you supplied when ever I called to your home. Randal will be always remembered in the Kilmeaden and surrounding areas as a kind generous family man who gave so much of his time to the children who passed through Ballyduff NS and to the community he lived for many years.

My sincere sympathy to Eileen and family on the sad passing of Randal. I will always remember him as a very kind and thoughtful person. May he rest in peace.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Randal. He left a lasting impression on us all with his kind and gentle wisdom. I had the real privilege of teaching in Ballyduff  N.S. during Randal's time there. We were always guaranteed a listening ear, followed by sound advice.
As a Principal, his interest in all his  students was extraordinary. Years after they left Ballyduff, he would inquire how they were doing...proud of them all as he puffed on his pipe, tracing the origins of their achievements back to their alma mater!

Ballyduff was very fortunate to have Mr.McCarthy at the helm. While he was there everyone & everything flourished.

Always a proud Cork man. It was no surprise that both he & Eileen were Cork-bound on Retirement. They scheduled their Ballyduff departure on the 1st day of his retirement, waving & tooting the horn as they rounded the church corner & headed 'West'.

The tobacco smell in The Master's room lingered for some time- a comfort to those who remained.
