RIGHT REVEREND MONSIGNOR LEONARD O'BRIEN

Condolences to Mons. Leonard's family and friends on his recent passing.
We remember him as a young curate when he was Chaplain at Clonakilty Hospital in the early-mid 1970's and more recently as the active Parish Priest in Clonakilty.
In fact five of us were born at the hospital and one brother was called Leonard, after him!
My mother recalls then Fr. Leonard's delight when she told him the day after the baby was born that she would name him Leonard and he never forgot it!
I also remember him as a man with a great interest in history and the booklet he compiled on the architecture of the Parish Church in Clonakilty is magnificent.

We’re very sorry to hear of the passing of Monsignor Leonard. Our thoughts and prayers are with the O’Brien and O’Donovan families at this sad time. We extend our deepest sympathy to you and the clergy of the diocese. He was a dedicated and kind man during his time as Parish Priest in Ballincollig. Our daughters received their First Holy Communion from him and we all have very fond memories of him.
May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.

We performed two plays "the Lord mayor" and "many young men of twenty" in the 1970's. We were fortunate to have Leonard as director of those plays and the craic was mighty. Thanks Leonard
