Sorry to hear Bob passed. I had the great privilege of working with him as SHO at the old St Catherine’s in 1982. He was a kind and caring doctor from whom we all learned a great deal. Always upbeat and cheerful and great fun. Condolences to all his family. RIP

I worked for Bob as his secretary, both private and public, and have very fond memories of him. He once dictated a full clinic tape with a French accent in preparation for his upcoming annual summer holiday in France!
Bob’s sense of fun was hugely evident in 80’s when he had a great bunch of junior doctors working under him who were always up for a harmless prank.
Bob clearly overcame the mystery of playing golf by becoming a golfer himself. This sport was something beyond Bob’s comprehension when I worked for him but I expect as he was once considered the busiest Physician in Ireland he didn’t have time to embrace this sport in his earlier years. However he clearly converted and saw the merit of hitting a little white ball around a field!
Bob was extremely proud of his family who gave him great joy over the years. The support Catherine gave him while he worked and in his retirement was always appreciated by him.
As with anyone who had the pleasure of working and knowing Bob we knew that he was a very private person and also one who respected everyone he met.
There is no doubt that Bob had “inherited” so many “beds in Heaven” over the years that he was greeted on 2 January 2025 by St. Peter at the Gates of Heaven and shown straight into a superb penthouse suite which he so richly deserves.
May Bob’s happy, funny, sincere and gentle soul Rest in Peace.

Bob was well known to me and my family for my whole life, in fact he was the first person outside of my parents to hold me when I was born in the old St. Catherine's Hospital in Tralee. Bob had a smile and a joke for me always. Even when I was buried in medical textbooks cramming before my finals in a spare room at Oakpark Medical Centre, Bob would pop in to say hello, when he had his private rooms there. He was the intern tutor during my internship at UHK in 2007 and was one of the best teachers I have ever had as a doctor.

A wonderful old-school expert clinician. (I also remember well often playing tennis with him in the 1990s in the sports complex, also living nearby at the time).

I am a medical rep and knew Dr Bob (as we all affectionately knew him) for many years.
To say that he was a gentleman is an understatement but also an absolute rogue!

He would tell a joke and wait to see your reaction and if you laughed, then he laughed too and boy did he laugh!

He was always very kind and gracious to me in my role as a rep calling to see him in university Hospital Kerry. He always made me feel welcome and was always very supportive and respectful.

I was so sad to hear of his passing and I hope he's at peace.
