Sincere condolences to the McCarten family. I have so many great memories of Ron and his PE classes at Castleknock, especially when he opened the door with a big smile because he’d set the gym up for pirates. What a great character and teacher he was, and a lovely genuine man. May he rest in peace.
Our sincere sympathy to Edna and family on the death of Ron. We'll think of you every time we look at the front pew on the right hand side in St Brigid's, you made it your own. He was a lovely man. May he rest in peace.
Dear Edna and family, how very sad to hear the news. It would have been great to have had the chance to meet him again.

My earliest memories of Ron were: very English accent, a stern look which could just as easily break into a smile, short and very nimble for an 'old guy', an introduction to the word “kit” for the first time …and the great importance attached to “looking after it”.

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it”. (Heb 12:11)

He was disciplined, principled and kind. He could be tough – but mostly because he cared and wanted these young boys and men before him to be best that they could be and to not waste the opportunities afforded to them. Sometimes it worked out and sometimes it didn’t. Fear and fun wrapped up in one bundle. It wasn’t all about winning …and in those days we didn’t win very much, but for those who were willing he offered every encouragement and was generous with his time. He will be missed but not forgotten.

“Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life.
In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell for ever and ever.” (Psalm 23)
Edna, Sincere sympathy on the death of your dear husband Ron. May he rest in heavenly peace.
May the God of Comfort be with you and family during this sad time.

Ahh, Ron. When word came that you had left us it fair took the wind out of the day. But it brought a flood of warm memories. After all, I owe you so much. Nearly thirty years ago you gave me the job of Soccer Coach in ‘Knock and through that I met some wonderful people and made the greatest friends a person could ever have. One of the best parts of the job, though, was bumping into you and the laughter and slagging and banter that would ensue. Anyone who encountered that warm smile and big heart were affected forever. It’s awful that we can’t be there to see you off, but honestly the College Chapel wouldn’t be big enough to hold all of us who hold you in such affection. So instead I’ll offer Edna, James and Philip my deepest condolences. Then I’ll raise a parting glass and say goodnight and joy be with you, Ron.
Dear Edna please accept our deepest sympathy for the loss of Ron. A wonderful kind and friendly man who took great care of all the students in the college . Will miss his great humour. Love to you and all the family xx Julie and family (Alex class of 2012 )
