I was saddened to hear of Sammy Sr.’s passing. I feel grateful to have met him on his last trip to Boston. I remember him as a kind, happy man with a big smile and a great laugh.

I would like to offer my condolences to the Benson family and especially to Ed, who I went to school with in St Munchins in the late 70s. I know nothing about music and even I knew the legend that was Sammy Benson. RIP.

I have so many fond memories of Sammy from right back in 1974 when we formed the band and through many miles of marching, fun, music and friendships. Fortunately my Dad was there too and no doubt they are catching up on all the news now. Sammy was one super person who taught so many and gave selflessly of all his time.
