Sr. Attracta McCarthy

Sincere condolences to Sr. Attracta's family and to the sisters of Mercy on their sad loss. I have many memories of Sr. Attracta during my time working in Mount Carmel hospital and later when I took on the roll of Minister of the Eucharist and also Sacristan at the hospital church and Sr. Attracta trained me in. She was a lovely gentle lady and we became great friends. I am going to miss her terribly. May her gentle soul rest in peace

Carmel Hosp. She was proud to be called Josephine, having been born 19th March - Feast of St. Joseph. I will miss my visits and phone calls " before the 9pm news." Clonakilty lost one of its greatest treasures last Tuesday evening with the passing of an old and valued friend. I got to know her forty five years ago when I first arrived in town. She was then the Director of nursing at Mt Carmel hospital catering for over two hundred patients at that time . She was exceedingly polite and invariably courteous and really went out of her way to facilitate the medical staff whenever a bed was required.She truly lived up to the name she took when receiving her vows - Attracta by name and nature.Sleep well dear friend we will mourn your passing RIP.I regret I was not around today.
