Sr. Mary BURKART

I was deeply saddened to hear of Sr Mary’s passing. I am a former student of Loreto, Fermoy and had the privilege of knowing Sr Mary during my time there. She truly was an inspirational teacher and always had time for her students. We were so lucky to have met her and I hope that she is at peace now.

Mary had a tremendous capacity to help others, she was so talented and wise. I was fortunate to know Mary during her time in Loreto, Fermoy. May Mary rest in peace.Sincere condolences to Mary's parents, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, extended family, her Loreto community and friends.

To Cathy, to your dear Mom and Dad, and brothers and sisters, and to the Loretto Community - I am so, so saddened to hear the news of Mary’s passing. Please accept my most sincere sympathy. My deepest sympathy to the Burkart family and the Loreto Community. Mary embodied the values and vision of Mary Ward. She touch the lives of many people across the globe with her passion for justice, her love of life and her wonderful sense of humour. She is now free from pain and suffering but will be greatly missed by many. May she rest in peace.

You were a gift to the world Mary. Warm, passionate and principled, with a wicked sense of humour that ensured no one ever felt patronised. You made other people's lives better, thank you for the friendship and laughter you gave us as well your generous help to the communities around you.

Mary was the best of us. She cared deeply and worked to make this world a better place with each encounter. She eased the suffering of many and challenged us to do more and better by her actions. She made us feel loved and secure and also roar with laughter. Her gift was that she truly saw and loved us. We loved her and are grateful for the time we had with Mary.

So sorry to hear of Mary's illness and passing. Cousin Joanne has been thoughtful enough to pass on information.

Sr. Mary made a huge contribution to life in Loreto Fermoy during her time there and she will be fondly rememberd by all who knew her. We have particularly happy memories of trips to Assilah in Morocco that Mary organised for the students. She was a wonderful person and it was a privilege to know her.

She had an instant rapport with both pupils and staff. Her infectious passion for social innovation and justice, together with her deep faith and great sense of fun left an indelible mark on many lives. Mary was our neighbour when we were growing up. So many memories of laughter and smiles. I still remember playing computer games on the IBM and the playing with her jack russell.

Mary was a woman of great dreams and desires, an inspiration when I first met her over twenty years ago, and still an inspiration now. Her vision was almost too broad and her gifts too many to be able to channel them for the ministries she saw were needing to be done.
