Sr. Mary Donovan

My deepest condolences on the sad death of Sr. Mary.
As a young student teacher at Kinsale Community School in 2005 she was a great source of help and advice who was dedicated to the students and staff.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Sr. Mary was a wonderful person, kind and caring, and a dedicated principal who worked tirelessly for the benefit of her students. She had a positive attitude and a great sense of humour. She will be missed greatly by all whose lives she touched.

Sr Mary was a unique and wonderful human being. She had so many wonderful qualities
I was privileged to work with Mary as part of the office staff of Kinsale Community School and witnessed first hand her dedication to the schòol which she worked tirelessly to establish. She was like a dog with a bone and wore the Department of Education down with her persistence if anything was required for the school in terms of funding or otherwise. She was very much people centred and had great empathy and compassion for students, staff and people in general. Mary was great fun and loved to chat and tell a story. Mary was also a strong leader and set the groundwork for the school we have today.
I will miss Mary very much, she is a huge loss to her family, friends and the broader community of Kinsale and beyond. My sincere condolences to the O'Donovan and O'Driscoll families, to the Mercy Sisters in Winter's Hill and elsewhere, Sr Joan, and her many, many friends

Sr.Mary was such an asset to our steering committee in the early days of the St John's and St Joseph's amalgamation and also as Chairperson of Scoil Naomh Eltin. She was always encouraging and was an oracle of information and advice. Sr. Mary always posessed a solution to any kind of problem and would assure you with that glint in her eye, that all would be well.

She will be so greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of working with her and all those whom lives she touched through her teaching career.

Sr Mary was a wonderful friend over the years both in the Convent and Community schools.In more recent years we met regularly for a chat and a coffee.I was both shocked and saddened by her untimely death.
In the earlier days she encouraged and accompanied me on the French student exchange to Antibes.Anything that benefitted the students was always her priority.She has touched so many lives by her dedication, generosity and kindness I will miss her dearly May we never forget the wonderful legacy she has left behind

So sad to learn that Sr.Mary has passsed away.
She was an exceptional person,whom I appreciated from the day I met her. She came to Antibes in 1990 with a group of pupils from Kinsale thus launching, along with Mary Riordan, a student exchange scheme between Kinsale and Antibes which continues today.

Sr Mary was a very well regarded and respected member of ACCS, but for me she was a dear friend, advisor, mentor and confidant. She had a fantastic sense of humour which lifted the company she was in. She is a huge loss to us all. Well done to all involved in her funeral Mass, it was an occasion fitting for a special person. Condolences on the passing of Sister Mary to the O Donovan family and the Mercy community Kinsale. As a past pupil l remember Sister Bertmans as she was in those days, as a great Teacher but great fun as well. Many the winters evening in the 70s, when the bus would be late by bad weather she'd wait with us and chat away. So normal and down to earth. A kind and lovely person. May Sister Mary rest in peace.
