It is with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of Sr Mercedes. She was an inspiration to science teachers across the country and a key person in the birth and development of the ISTA On all occasions when we met at conferences she always asked about family and valued our work and support for the ISTA

I'll always be grateful for the kindness Sr. Mercedes showed to me when I worked next door – often inviting me in for the tea and generous portions of wisdom. I always left feeling better for having been in her company.
May she rest in eternal peace with the Lord whom she loved and served so well.
I regret that I wasn't able to be present for the funeral.

My deepest sympathies to Sr. Mercedes' family, Sr. Mercedes taught me Maths and Physics and I in turn taught Maths and Physics in St. Als, initially under Sr. Mercedes who was the Principal. She innovated in many areas including the early promotion of the teaching of Computer Studies at the school.

I would like to send my condolences to all of Sister Mercedes’ family and friends. My father was Victor Bond. He was principal of Ashton School and knew Sister Mercedes through his work. He spoke so highly of her and she was a good friend to him. Her name is very familiar to me although I don’t think I ever had the privilege of meeting her. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Sincerest sympathy to Sr. Mercedes' extended family and Community of Mercy Sisters on her death. She lived a very long life during which she contributed significantly to education through her teaching, wise counsel, policy making and management. I had the pleasure of many conversations with her during her time as a member of Cork RTC's advisory council and afterwards too at special events at CIT such as conferring ceremonies. As a Sligonian she often spoke to me with fondness for Sligo and of her friends there. May she rest in peace.

I am so sorry to learn of the death of Sr. Mercedes. I was very fond of her. She was a wonderful teacher of maths and biology. I loved her classes. She brought out the very best of my capabilities in those subjects.
