Thomas (Tommy) Cheevers

We are deeply saddened to hear of Tommy’s passing. Tommy was held in the highest regard by all our staff — a kind, gentle and pleasant man who always took the time to interact so warmly with the children.

His care and dedication in providing and maintaining the fish tank transformed our school entrance into a calm and welcoming space, a little meeting place where children would gather, chat and enjoy a moment of quiet wonder. It is a small but lasting legacy that meant so much to our school community.

Tommy will be greatly missed by staff and pupils alike.

I always looked forward to calling in for a catch up and a fishing report. Regardless of how you were feeling beforehand you felt fifty times better after meeting Tom due to the friendship and interest he showed towards you. We are deeply saddened on the sudden passing of the President of our Angling association, Tommy Cheevers.
Tommy was an integral part of the fabric of Athenry Anglers for many years and instrumental in the formation of what is now Cregmore/Athenry Anglers.
Tommy made a fantastic contribution to the community of Athenry as proprietor of Cheevers’s tackle and pet shop, all callers there were warmly welcomed.
Further afield, across the country Tommy’s kindness and cheerfulness was displayed through his work in his aquarium business.
Tommys helpful, cheerful, kind and selfless personality made him friends wherever he went.
He was an absolute gentleman and will be sorely missed.
Our Association extends it’s heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his wife Ann, Tommy’s relatives and many many friends.

We were so sad to hear of Tommy's passing. He was a regular caller to our home to help and give advice on fish and turtle tanks, he will be missed greatly by our children. No job was too big for anyone who needed his help, he always went that extra mile and had a little story to tell with it. Thinking of you at this sad time Ann.
