Tom O'Connor

I was deeply saddened to learn of Tom's death, so soon after the loss of his beloved Marie. He was a great businessman, Galwayman and family man.
I met him many times over the years on his visits to Athlone to see his paternal aunts, uncles and cousins. We shared an interest in family history and, in more recent times, exchanged documents, letters and photos by email.
Tom will be greatly missed by all who knew him, including his Athlone cousins.
My deepest sympathies are extended to his sons, Ronan and Shane, to his brothers Ray, Noel and Rory and to the wider O'Connor and Courtney families.

So sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. Always a pleasure to meet Tom, a true gentleman. One of the most respected and remarkable people in Galway.

A man before his time, he contributed so much to the city, including the highly successful Galway Boston Ventures with Mary Bennett. This was critical to making Galway the largest Medtech cluster in Europe

Please accept my deepest regret at the loss of Tom. I have known Tom for almost eighty years ,
when we first played as children in St Mary's Road; A life-long friend I deeply regret that I did not attend his funeral,
having only heard the sad news of his passing days later. He shall never be forgotten,

Sincerest condolences on the very sad passing of Tom, who achieved so much, particularly on an interpersonal level.He was a merchant prince in Galway, but a King of a man.
As a result of his life experiences, he gently advised frequently on all issues from, smoking, planning in Barna, to gratuitous violence on TV.
He tried to make the world a better place and saw everyone as a precious human being.

Tom was the true retail pro. He built a hugely successful business which was regarded as the benchmark of the TV trade. I would think almost every home,business premises etc in Galway city and county would have had at least one (or more) item which was purchased from O'CONNOR TV. When we started Craughwell Electric back in the 80's Tom was one of the first to call and wish us well. My condolences to Ronan, Shane, Ray and the extended O'Connor family. May he now rest in peace with his loving wife Marie.

My first meeting with Tom was when my late wife, Anne and I visited the Woodquay premises .That was the start of a relationship that continued through the various iterations of the business as it grew , relocated and expanded .
Tom never lost his love of his work and each worthwhile innovation in the field of electronics was greeted with enthusiasm, an enthusiasm that he succeeded in transmitting to us ,his customers . We ,however, never had the feeling that we were mere customers : rather ,we felt that we had become members of a wider family ,a bond that has endured .
