Aug 24th...I've just been informed of Tony's passing.
I first met him in 1984 as the buyer of ladies nightwear in Dunne's stores in South Great Georges's st.
He believed and supported me in our manufacturing of innovative flannelette cartoon nightshirts and pyjames. I made a video interview, in the Dunne's Ilac store, of him proudly showing the merchandise.
Over the years, until last year, we regularly stayed in contact with him buying for special occasions such as World Cup and Rugby.
After the debacle of the cancelled Garth Brook concert he stood over his commitments and ensured I was paid in full even though his department suffered the loss of clearing the stock.
He was funny, fair, professional and, above all loyal, to his suppliers and his employer Ms Heffernan.
I had hoped to have had many lunches together, in his retirement, reminiscing over old times but ,sadly, that time has passed.
Goodbye Tony you were one of those special people in my long relationship, since 1973, with Dunnes Stores.
I will miss you.
Paul Martin

I’m so sorry to hear about Uncle Tony. I have such lovely memories of him from when I was a child, and I’ll always cherish them. He was so down-to-earth and full of great advice. I always enjoyed hearing about the new gadgets he was testing out for busy periods and how they were working out. He really had a gift for what he did and such a good instinct for business.

He’ll be such a big loss and will be missed so much. Sending you all lots of love and thinking of you during this tough time.

Love,
xxxx

Very saddened to hear of Tony's passing. On the week of Tony's retirement, I called him in his office and we enjoyed such a lovely phone conversation reminiscing about all things Dunnes Stores. Tony was a man about the sales figures! It was a wonderful trip down memory lane for both of us.

Rest in peace, Tony.
