Hi Vanessa, I know that fortunes change and grief can be overwhelming. What surprised me was learning of your strength to smile and touch the hearts of those around you. Unlike you, adversity and cruelty have hardened my heart. I have learnt to keep my head down and look away. But everytime I passed you on North Main Street you triggered my conscience. I wanted to stop and ask if you were alright, but didn't. I went to St. Peter and Paul’s church yesterday to say sorry, light a candle and say a prayer for you and your family. When Chelsea said that she loved you unconditionally I couldn't fight back the tears, my heart started to thaw. This evening, I passed a young woman sitting in the cold opposite the old Brackens Bakery. She became upset because a man spilt beer on her. I turned back and asked her if she wanted a hot chocolate. She was so appreciative of something so small and wished me a happy Christmas. I thought about what Fr. O’Reilly said about Lazarus at the requiem mass yesterday. You can be physically alive but emotionally dead, until something stirs inside. I stopped at your smiling picture outside Daybreak on North Main Street to pay my respects. I wish I could have bought you a cup of hot chocolate, but because of you I will strive to be kinder to other people in your situation instead.

It was both heartbreaking and uplifting to hear Vanessa's daughter Chelsea giving such a lovely eulogy for her mother in the church today, saying you loved her unconditionally. It is not surprising that Vanessa was loved, but it was wonderful to hear that Vanessa knew she was loved.
I was blessed with a few interactions with her on North Main Street and that beautiful smile of hers. May her beautiful soul rest in peace.

I never knew Vanessa at all but this news is absolutely heartbreaking. Poor girl, this is so so sad. I did happen to drive by that awful Sunday evening and noticed the ambulance etc on the street and I was shocked when I heard the outcome, I have been thinking of her and her poor family every day since. So Sad

I met Vanessa a few years back. I was having a drink on my day off and she just started chatting to me. She was drinking water. She came across as such a bubbly person with so much life. After that whenever she saw me, north main street Tesco on Paul street. She always popped up somewhere and would give me such a big hug and her catchphrase, loves ya. I believe she is now at peace, but I will sorely miss those hugs and her beautiful smile. Rest in peace friend. You'll always be in my heart.

I just remebered that I met Vanessa briefly last Christmas with my young daughter and she was very lovely. My thoughts are with her daughters and family at this time. May Vanessa rest in peace.
