Vera was an incredible woman of such strength and resilience. She lived her life with tenacity and bravery and so very true to her core values of humility and simplicity. Her ferocious quest for autonomy attests to all of you and your support for her living independence for as long as possible.
Her weekly trips to the city centre right up until 2020 were often filled with hilarious stories of her staunch,
no-nonsense strength of character
From staving off prospective (and subsequently terrified) thieves to advising on pricing anomalies in stores, the stories were comical and wonderful. As was she.

To Joyce and Mark sorry to here of verra keep you and your family in my prayers at night she had the curtains pulled over she loved the bingo and getting her hair done she looked so well i wll miss you both coming on and the dog

Saddened to hear the news of Vera’s passing. She and my Mum used to cycle home from primary school with Mark and I on the back of their bikes. They spent the last two years together in the care of St Patrick’s nursing home. Rest in peace.

As a next door neighbour of the Abbott family, we couldn’t have had nicer or kindlier neighbours than Vera, Bob and all their family.
They were stalwarts of the Methodist Church and an example of true friendship and community cooperation in Raheny.
Vera bore with dignity the deaths of her husband and two of her sons and continued to quietly support neighbours and friends and those who were in need of a shoulder to lean on throughout her life.
My sincere sympathy to Joyce, Mark and to all her grandchildren. We were all blessed with an exceptional friend in Vera.

My sincere and deepest condolences to the Abbott family. Vera made a difference to our lives as did her late husband Bob and her two sons Ivor and David. Vera had unshakable faith was always available with a listening ear. She was much loved by all in Clontarf and Sutton Methodist Church, and by many others further afield. I have wonderful memories of her cycling to Sunday service. Thank you Vera for touching our lives in so many ways. May you rest in peace with Bob, Ivor and David. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.
