Virgina Van Lente
(née Russell)

Formerly of Midleton, Co. Cork

 

On 9th February 2026, Virginia died peacefully in the wonderful care of the doctors and nurses at Galway University Hospital, with her devoted family by her side.

 

Predeceased very recently by her beloved husband Hans van Lente.

 

Loving and much-cherished mother of Eric and Richard.

 

Originally from Midleton, Co. Cork, Virginia lived most of her life in Barna, Co. Galway, where she was held in great affection by her friends and community.

 

Virginia bore a long illness with great strength and resilience over many years.

Despite significant health challenges, she remained full of spirit, warmth and kindness. She was laughing and joining in with songs up until the end.

 

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her sons, the extended van Lente and Russell families, neighbours, and a wide circle of friends.

Funeral Arrangements

Friday 13th February 2026 : Virginia will lie in repose at the O'Flaherty Funeral Parlour, Munster Avenue, Galway (H91 V1K8) from 5:00 pm. - 6:30 pm. There will be a short prayer service at 6pm.

 

Saturday 14th February 2026 : A Funeral Service in celebration of Virginia's life will be held on arrival at St. Nicholas' Collegiate Church at 11:00am. Private cremation to follow.

 

Donations, if desired, may be made in memory of Virginia to Diabetes Ireland or GSPCA.
